Where do babies come from?

God made daddies and mommies so they would be different from one another. When daddies and mommies are ready to have a baby, they play a special game called "making love." If they win the game, God chooses some parts from the mommy and some parts from the daddy, and He makes copies of them. Then He mixes up the copies, puts them all back together again, and makes a new person from them. That's why people say some babies have their daddy's nose or their mommy's eyes.

After God makes the new person, He very carefully places it inside the mommy's womb so she can feed it and help it grow until it's big enough to breathe all by itself. Then God looks around in heaven for all the souls that are waiting for a chance to be born. He finds the very best souls in heaven and and asks them. "Who wants to live in this baby's body?" Some of the souls jump up and down and raise their hands and holler, "I do!" "I do!" "I do!"

Well, in the end, the soul who most wants to come is the one God chooses. So the soul comes down out of heaven and watches the family and gets to know them and learns to love them even though the family doesn't even know it's there. Isn't that amazing?

And you can't even imagine how happy Mommy and Daddy are that you chose us, and how glad we are that God chose you, the very best soul He had in heaven, to send to us.

Anyway, when the baby is ready to be born, the mommy has to push and push and push to help the baby pop out of her womb. Mommies go to the hospital to have their babies because babies are so little they might need help to breathe. Doctors and nurses stand around and wait until the mommy helps the baby get born. The baby tries to help, too.

And when the baby is born, the doctors pick it up and make sure it is breathing right. If it is, then they wash the baby and put it to bed to sleep for awhile, because getting born is very hard work. Most of the time, the mommy is very tired, too. So the doctors and nurses help her get all cleaned up and pretty again, and then they let her go to bed and sleep for awhile. After a day or two, the baby and the mommy come home to their families, and everybody lives happily ever after.
